Further Information

Barry the bicycle mechanic started a mobile service in 2012 un the name of Barry's Mobile Bicycle Maintenance. In 2014 he started MerseyCycle CIC and ran both business alongside each other. in 2024 Barry's mobile business ceased to exist and all work was transferred to MerseyCycle. From that time MerseyCycle was also able to offer servicing repairs and not just recycled bikes though that remains our focus.

Where are we and getting there?

MerseyCycle is the home of bicycle recycling in Merseyside. We are based in Knowsley but are right on the Liverpool border. Our postcode is L16 3NA.

There are various ways of getting to us.

We are based in Court Hey Park, the previous home of the Gladstone Family.

By car the park entrance is adjacent to the M62 between the Rocket and Knotty Ash Junction. Big brown information signs direct you to Court Hey Park. The entrance is on the A5080 Roby Road.

The nearest train stations are Broadgreen and Roby. Both are accessed on the City Line from Lime Street Railway Station.

The 61 bus goes along Roby Road but the 79 bus also goes along Childwall Valley Road at the rear of the park and then on foot the park can be accessed by the entrances by Pascal Baylon School.

Nation Cycle Network route 62 is very close to the park too. Locally this stretch is called the Ralla of the Loop Line. NCN62 goes from Southport to Hull. Leaving the route at Lanfranc Way and heading to Castletown Close you can then access Baldwin Avenue, Chelwood Avenue and then the park is easiest accessed from Thornton Road.

Opening Times?

We are a volunteer lead project but we try to be at the  workshop every Wednesday and  Thursday from 10 until 1 and then 2 until 4 and Saturday 10-1.  Other times can be arranged by appointment. It is always best to text ahead of time to check that we are in just in case something has cropped up including holidays. If there is a change to these openings we post it here and on our Facebook page.

Please note that on :-

September does not see any interruption to our usual opening times.

EVENTS COMING UP. BOOKING FOR THE TUESDAY EVENTS IS NECESSARY AT MerseyCycle@gmail.com

How to use your Gears. Tuesday 23rd September 2025 1-4.

This very interactive course will help you understand more the principles used in gear use. As mechanics we see and hear that people stay in one gear all the time and favour a gear for no other reason than they don’t know the benefits of gear use. We will tell you that by using your gears properly you can extend the life of the components on your bike, you can get more out of your bike ride and you can make things far easier for you. After a discussion group we will sit you on a bike and you’ll be pedaling whilst on a turbo trainer and using the gears so that you understand the principles we have just discussed.

How to maintain brakes. Tuesday 30th September 1-4.

Brakes are very useful things but do you know, how many types that there are, how they work, how you can use them and how you can help maintain them.

How to maintain your gears. Tuesday 14th October 1-4

Gears are very useful things but do you know, how many types that there are, how they work, how you can use them and how you can help maintain them.

Punctures Tuesday 21st October 1-4.

Love them or hate them they are here to stay. No matter what you ride, (unless it is solid tyres another nonsense of the cycle industry), they will get you. But do you know what all that information on the tyre means, what tube size do you need, what valve, how do you get the wheel off. And all those things.

Dr. Bike Saturday 25th October 10-4 pm.

Bring your bike along to let the mechanics look at it for free. We’ll check your bike and give you sound advice about what it needs and how it can be looked after. In fact, if we can carry out the minor repair for you then we will, for FREE. First come first served but bring your bikes along.

Donations of parts and bikes.

We always welcome donations but would ask you to contact us in advance to discuss the bicycles or parts that you have to donate. Sometimes not all bikes can be recycled. After a call with you we shall let you know. Sometimes we are so full that we have no more room for anymore.

From 1st April 2024 we now undertake servicing and repairs. Our experienced qualified mechanics are happy to help. Visit us for a chat and bring your bike for us to see what we can do to help.
